A “committed” journalist has sadly died after receiving treatment while “fighting for her life” against an illness she battled for quite some time, leaving behind her two young children

A TV presenter has tragically died, sadly leaving behind her two young children. Journalist Mariela Flores was known for her role with Honduras’ Corporación Televicentro group

She died on 6 May at La Granja hospital in Tegucigalpa, where she had been undergoing treatment since January 2026. Mariela was missing from screens throughout the entire year while battling an undisclosed “long illness”.

Televicentro and Emisoras Unidas’ corporate news director Alejandra Andino said in a statement: “We are extremely shocked and saddened by this news. From the moment we learned of Mariela’s diagnosis, we supported her and her husband in every way we could as a company and as colleagues,” reports the Express.

She described the star and her family as “an example of responsibility and commitment.” Mariela is survived by two young children, alongside her partner Elías Acosta, who is also a presenter for TN5 Estelar on Canal 5.

Mariela’s colleagues at Radio HRN said her death has created a “significant void” within the industry and heartfelt tributes have been pouring in online.

TV Azteca Honduras wrote: “The journalistic guild is in mourning tonight upon confirmation of the death of young Mariela Flores, who had been fighting for her life for some time.”

“Committed to her profession and to Honduras, sensitive to social causes and with an enormous drive to better herself, that was Mariela, who was also the wife of fellow journalist Elías Acosta. May she rest in peace.”
