Moves were all in the balance for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi with all transfers dependent on the other joining their respective clubs.
Arsenal forked out a club-record fee worth £55million to sign Aubameyang which meant Dortmund opted to take Batshuayi on loan from Chelsea who signed Giroud for £20m.
Aubameyang comes in as a more direct replacement for Alexis Sanchez and has consistently proven to be one of Europe’s leading goalscorers in recent seasons.
Giroud found minutes hard to come by at Arsenal despite an impressing return in front of goal while Batshuayi had fallen out of favour with Antonio Conte.
While Arsenal spent the most on the respective forward, Gunners legend Wright believes it is in fact Chelsea who have done the best deal in terms of what the club needed.
“I think Giroud, in respects of value for money and we know is someone who can score in this league,” Wright said on Match of the Day.
“The plan B for Chelsea will work with him coming in.
“I think they needed a focal point today [against Bournemouth].”
Danny Murphy added: “Also Morata’s injury problems. Never mind plan B, it could be plan A and he can play in the Champions League.”
Giroud could make his Chelsea debut on Monday (8pm) when the Blues travel to face Watford while Aubameyang could line up for Arsenal against Everton on Saturday (5.30pm).
