Liverpool were linked with a summer swoop for Real Madrid goalkeeper Navas yesterday, with reports saying the Costa Rica international had an offer to join at the end of the season.
The shotstopper has been tipped to move to Anfield as a replacement for one of Loris Karius or Simon Mignolet, with both players facing uncertain futures on Merseyside.
Navas could be shown the door should Real be successful in their pursuits of either Manchester United’s David De Gea or Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.
But Sky Sports’ La Liga expert Balague has claimed that Liverpool are unlikely to sign the 31-year-old – because he is determined to stay put at the Bernabeu.
“Navas has told Real that he wants to stay, even if they bring in another goalkeeper,” he told Sky Sports.
“That is seen by Real as a good way to create competition, even if it’s Courtois or De Gea who come in.
“If it’s one of those two, they will be the No 1 and Navas will be No 2, which is a good position to be in – if the attitude of Navas is right.
“What I’m hearing is that he wants to stay.”
Liverpool’s goalkeeping problem has hurt them in recent years.
The Reds have never really replaced Pepe Reina, who was their last successful No1.
Navas, however, is not the only goalkeeper being linked with a move to the Premier League giants.
Liverpool are supposedly interested in landing Jan Oblak, who may leave Atletico Madrid in the summer.
And Roma star Alisson Becker is another on Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist.
