The former UFC light-heavyweight champion is currently on a provisional suspension following a failed drug test ahead of his grudge match with Daniel Cormier, which he won via devastating third-round KO.

The test, which was administered shortly after the official UFC 214 weigh-ins,

Jones’ second anti-doping violation has threatened to permanently bring the curtain down on his days a fighter. 

Should he be found guilty of knowingly taking the banned substance, he faces the prospect of receiving a four-year ban from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). 

Jones has denied intentionally taking the prohibited steroid and is adamant he has been clean his entire career.

The 30-year-old’s team are confident he will be exonerated of any wrongdoing and will be given a short suspension.

And ‘Bones’’ striking coach Brandon Gibson reckons we could very well see the New York native have a trilogy fight with Cormier, who he predicts will dethrone heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at 226.

On Thursday afternoon, he tweeted: “Let’s give this another try – I predict we see Jones vs DC 3 for the HW title Dec 29, 18.”

Cormier touched on the possibility of a third fight with Jon Jones after his UFC 220 victory over Volkan Oezdemir and .

“I want to see what happens. Not only am I – I’m just past it right now,” he said. “Until he’s able to do what we want to do, and that’s fight, I’m kind of past it. I’m kind of in this spot when it comes to Jones. 

“Competitively, all I want is to fight him again, but at some point, it’s just like, is it ever going to be a fight without nothing else? 

“And I don’t know if I can put myself through that again.

“I’ve done everything right and I’ve just been dragged down by this guy constantly, so I’m not thinking about it. I’m gonna do my thing for right now.”
