Belgium international Batshuayi joined from Chelsea on transfer deadlined day to replace Aubameyang, who quit Dortmund for Arsenal.

Batshuayi had been enduring a miserable season in west London.

But he has already started to repay the faith shown in him at Dortmund with two goals tonight.

And German newspaper Bild could not help teasing Aubameyang for the goals.

‘Auba who? Double for Batshuayi’ was their headline.

Fellow newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote ‘The Aubameyang successor scores twice’.

After the match Batshuayi said: “I am very happy. That was the first game.

“It was difficult. It was important are the three points.”

Aubameyang has been training with his new Arsenal team-mates but a fever may rule him out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton (5.30pm).

The Gabon international cost Arsenal £56m on deadline day, while headed to Germany on loan as his replacement.
