Arsenal finally got their No 1 January transfer target on deadline day after agreeing a £55m fee with Borussia Dortmund.
He comes in as a direct replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who left for Manchester United a couple of weeks ago with Henrikh Mkhitaryan also arriving in January.
The Gabon international had caused trouble at Dortmund in the weeks leading up to his transfer to the Emirates.
He was suspended for missing a team meeting prior to the game against Wolfsburg and was left out of the squad to face Hertha Berlin a week later.
Aubameyang did play the full 90 minutes against Freiburg at the weekend but he was subjected to loud jeers from the Dortmund supporters throughout the match.
And El Gol Digital claim it is Aubameyang’s long standing history of disciplinary issues that led to them retracting their interest in the striker.
Aubameyang has consistently been linked with a move to the Bernabeu and has spoken of his desire to one play for the La Liga giants.
But his dream move looks unlikely to happen now with Arsenal securing his services.
The 28-year-old took to social media after his transfer to the Gunners was announced to apologise to Dortmund fans for his behaviour in recent weeks.
”First of all sorry for everything that happened in the last month,” Aubameyang said in a post on Instagram
“But I wanted to change last summer, it did not work, but now it had to be.
“Maybe it was not the best way I chose, but everyone knows that Auba is crazy – and yes, I’m a crazy kid, hahahaha!”
