That’s according to Gunners legend Martin Keown, who says Ozil’s decision to put pen to paper is brilliant news for his old club.

Ozil had been tipped to follow Alexis Sanchez in quitting Arsenal after entering the final six months of his current deal.

But news broke yesterday that the 29-year-old has committed his future to the Gunners with an official announcement to follow.

Ozil’s decision to stay put came as Arsenal broke their transfer record to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

And Keown claims they will need to splash the cash again at the end of the season to satisfy their talismanic midfielder.

“It is great news for Arsenal,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “For the fans, it will almost feel like another new signing.

Arsenal are in their lowest league position since negotiations with Ozil began and this could be a massive show of loyalty from the player.

“Arsenal need him more than ever — and to keep him happy Arsene Wenger is going to have to buy the right players in the summer.

“There seems to have been a speeding up in decision making when it has come to letting players go that we have not been sure about.

“Arsenal fans will be anxious to see who the replacements are going to be.

“Wenger still has to get that central defensive partnership right — and the team have to learn how to stay in a game away from home.”

Arsenal postponed today’s press conference with speculation they could be getting set to announce Ozil’s fresh contract.
