Wenger wanted Lemar

07.10: Arsene Wenger has revealed that he came to signing Monaco star Thomas Lemar, according to reports.

According to the Mirror, Wenger told the club’s executive box holders at an exclusive Q&A that he was chasing Lemar, who was also a target of Liverpool.

However, he claims that time to secure a deal for the 22-year-old.

Instead, the Gunners landed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day.

Murphy rages at Gunners

06.30: Sky Sports pundit Danny Murphy has ripped into Arsenal.

“Right now when I watch Arsenal play, it’s a joke for a top club to be so disorganised,” Murphy told The Debate.

“We’ve talked about it until we’re blue in the face. Defensively they’re all over the place.

“Arsenal never change what they do yet still expect to beat teams.

“They never look like they’ve got a plan and their decision making is absolutely awful at times.”

Aubameyang problem

06.00: Arsene Wenger will have a major problem on his hands in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And that is because he has to fit him into a team which is already brimming with attacking talent, claims pundit Danny Higginbotham.

“I don’t see how he can get BOTH Arsenal’s two most expensive signings — £60million Aubameyang and £44m Lacazette — in the same side as they are both out-and-out strikers,” Higginbotham wrote in his Sun column.

“Two up front is great going forward and you can cause real problems for opposition defences — especially as full-backs fly forward so much these days. But it brings problems defensively and Arsenal don’t need any more of those.

“They need to tighten up, not be gung-ho — especially away from home, where their record this season is pretty poor.”
