The US President sparked discussions about his health after he was seen with a bruised hand during an official appearance at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia
Donald Trump has raised health concerns just hours before he is due to take a key White House medical exam after he was photographed at an official event with a “discoloured” hand.
The US President, who is due to turn 80 next month, was joined by his Vice President, JD Vance, and Secretary of Defence, Pete Hegseth, for a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, earlier today. While the event went off without a hitch, the President raised eyebrows online again after eagle-eyed members of the public noticed his hands.
The event came with what is now a relatively familiar sight for close watchers of Trump’s numerous public appearances, as his hand appeared discoloured and slathered in concealer.

The President’s bruised hand was on full display during the wreath-laying ceremony, during which he saluted alongside Vance and Hegseth and met with other military officials. The bruise did not go unnoticed among members of the public, several of whom took to social media to comment.
One user said in a post on X, formerly Twitter : “Trump’s hand looks like a rotting $8.50 a pound of ground hamburger.” Another user added: “His hand is giant and blue.”
US-based journalist Aaron Rupar noted in another post that the bruised hand made an appearance right before he was due to make another visit to the White House doctors at Walter Reed hospital, saying: “Yikes! a day ahead of his visit to Walter Reed, Trump’s discolored hand is looking rough.”
The President’s hand was extra noteworthy this week due to timing of its appearance, with Trump set to undergo his fourth known medical checkup at Walter Reed on Tuesday.
The oldest person ever elected to the Presidency will receive his check up a matter of weeks before his 80th birthday on June 14, while the White House insists he is in “excellent health”. The Trump administration has long insisted the bruises on his hands are caused by a combination of daily aspirin use and regular handshakes.
Swelling on his legs, another ailment noticed by members of the public, was due to chronic venous insufficiency, a mild but chronic age-related illness.
Trump has a round-the-clock medical team on hand for private medical check-ups, with which he can meet as he pleases, and Walter Reed is typically used for more serious visits. The hospital attended to Trump when he was struck down with Covid in 2020, and he received scans last there as a “preventative” measure “to definitively rule out any cardiovascular issues”, said his doctor Sean Barbarella.
Walter Reed is equipped with advanced imaging facilities and is capable of undertaking other, more complex procedures the White House team wouldn’t otherwise be able to handle.
