A new Zelda Breath of the Wild update has been released today, and should be available to download for everyone on Nintendo Switch.
The company aren’t known for supplying the most descriptive patch notes for their games, although these do at least list a few changes.
Version 1.5 is mostly geared toward more language support, although Nintendo have also confirmed that various bugfixes have also been deployed.
Zelda Breath of the Wild update 1.5 patch notes:
- You can now select Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), or Korean in the language settings menu on the Switch console to display text in the selected language.
- Voice Language selection is not supported for the above languages. If you choose “Match System Settings” in Options, voice data will be set to Japanese.
- Various fixes to improve gameplay.
It should also be noted that the Nintendo Wii U version has also been given an update, however, it does not include the new language support.
It follows news that Nintendo are preparing to support more of their Nintendo Switch games with DLC in the future.
Zelda Breath of the Wild was the first in the series that offered additional downloadable content as part of a Season Pass.
The move wasn’t without its controversies but it appears to have been successful enough for the company to want to expand to other games.
During its recent earnings call, Nintendo said that it wants to encourage fans to play for longer, and plans to do this through more events and content.
“To promote longer gameplay for individual software titles, we plan to implement even more downloadable content and events that build excitement for games,” Nintendo revealed.
Nintendo didn’t specifically mention any titles, so it’s unclear if they would bother to return to Zelda Breath of the Wild.
It seems more likely that games like Super Mario Odyssey would be in line for more DLC support.
The company will revisit the title when it releases the brand new Balloon World mini game, which tasks one player with hiding a balloon while another tries to find it.
The update will also adds new filters for the snapshot mode, as well as new outfits for Mario.
Zelda creator Eiji Aonuma has also reportedly confirmed in a recent interview for the upcoming Breath of the Wild Master Books, that work on the next title is in progress.
But as you might expect, whatever is being worked on will likely take a long time to come to fruition.
The timeline between past Zelda games suggests a long wait, however, it’s fair to say that Breath of the Wild took longer, due in part to the Switch.Â
There’s also been reports that new remakes and ports are being worked on for both the Switch and 3DS, although fans may have to wait until E3 to hear more about them.
