As the announcements ticked by during last week’s State of Play, Summer Game Fest and Xbox Games Showcase, one thing was abundantly clear – every single game is avoiding the GTA 6 release date like the plague.

For a good while, Grand Theft Auto 6 was the only major video game to have its release date in November. Pencilled in for the 19th, Take-Two and Rockstar appear more certain than ever that the blockbuster game will be in the hands of fans by then, with all other major releases pushing their dates to either September, October, or into 2027.

All major games, that is, until one plucky title has decided to go against the grain. Seemingly completely unphased by the presence of GTA 6, there is one game that now has a release date on November 12, and it comes from a billion dollar franchise.

That’s right – look out Rockstar, Barbie Rewind is going toe-to-toe with the most anticipated game of the decade. Developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Atari, Barbie Rewind is a collection of retro games all based on Mattel’s global phenomenon.

The pack includes 16 different games originally released between 1991 and 2007, each rendered in a variety of retro art styles while benefitting from modern-day quality of life features.

Players are tasked with decorating the Barbie DreamHouse with new cosmetic items unlocked by completing objectives within the classic retro games. Top titles include Barbie Pet Rescue, Barbie Horse Adventures: Blue Ribbon Race, as well as a previously unreleased title called Barbie: Vacation Adventure.

While it would be amusing if it did, Barbie Rewind isn’t going to compete with Grand Theft Auto 6 in any meaningful way – there are very few, if any, games that could.

However, if you are looking for something else to play in November 2026, Barbie Rewind is currently your only option. That is, if you haven’t already completed the massive number of games launching between now and October.

September alone is looking absolutely stacked with Marvel’s Wolverine, Silent Hill Townfall and Control Resonant all launching within a couple weeks of each other.

There’s also the latest Nintendo Direct scheduled for tomorrow on June 9, which could see a few more titles slotted into the November release calendar. However, Nintendo does have less to fear when it comes to competing against GTA 6 given the title isn’t launching on the Switch 2 platform.

And to be fair, if there is one game that could go head to head with GTA 6, it’s a remake of what’s considered to be the best Zelda ever made, Ocarina of Time. Go on, Nintendo – you know you want to do it.
