is going down today with matchmaking disabled and servers taken offline ahead of the rollout of a big Battle Royale patch.

Epic Games revealed that Fortnite and Battle Royale is being taken offline ahead of the release of patch V.2.4.0.

The big Fortnite update was meant to be released yesterday, but the release was delayed by Epic Games.

The patch will bring with it the new Minigun weapon for Battle Royale and fix the building issues that have lingered since last week’s server downtime.

Announcing the downtime today, the official Fortnite Twitter account tweeted: “Incoming! V.2.4.0 is releasing today at 1PM EDT(6PM GMT). There will be some downtime and you will need to download an update. Notice a new issue? Let us know on any of our social channels or by reporting it in-game.”

And in a later tweet the Fortnite Twitter account added: “We are taking matchmaking offline as we prepare for downtime in 15 minutes. We’ll get you back in the game as soon as we can!”

The Fortnite team originally announced on Wednesday that patch V.2.4.0 would be released on Thursday, before later announcing that the launch of the update had been delayed.

And as fans waited for the update to land on Thursday, the Fortnite team published a detailed Reddit post explaining why the update had been delayed.

In the post they explained: “We hear your concerns regarding bugs that you are experiencing since V.2.3.0, especially those regarding building.

“It’s taking us longer than expected to fix these issues and we’re working through some major ones.

“If we’re unable to fix them today the v2.4.0 release will be delayed. Once we have a better idea of when the patch will arrive we’ll update everyone.

“In order to help make building feel better we’ll be reverting to the building bar system that was present in V.2.2.0. We intend on finding a more permanent fix to make building and item selection feel more crisp in the future. We’ve also added some tools to help us better diagnose in-game issues when new bugs do arise.

“Be sure to check the patch notes again because we’ve added more items to the “Known Bugs” section. In addition to that, we’ve also created a “Fixed Bugs” section to inform every one of the immediate fixes we’ve done that delayed this patch.

“Note: We have bugs that will come in with the v.2.4.0 release, see the Known Bugs section at the top of our notes for a full list.

“Please continue to let us know about anything new you find once V.2.4.0 does release.

“Thank you for your continued patience.”

Fortnite patch V.2.4.0 is launching the same day that the limited time Sniper Shootout mode is ending in Battle Royale.

So, once the server downtime finishes – fans will likely see the mode swapped out.

Last Thursday Fortnite was hit by extended server downtime that lasted for 14 hours.

To make up for it, Epic Games will be giving away some freebies to Fortnite and Battle Royale fans.

For Battle Royale players, 20 Battle Stars will be added toward their Battle Pass progression, while Save the World player will also get 1600 Seasonal Gold you can use in the Event Store.

Epic Games said these Fortnite treats will become available to fans sometime after patch V.2.4.0 is launched.
