Tyson Fury refused to give an interview and stormed out of the ring after his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, but backstage moaned he won the fight and said his rival “had a Christmas gift” from the judges
Tyson Fury refused to give an interview in the ring after his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, leaving Frank Warren to complain about the result.
But after storming out of the squared circle on Saturday night, the Gypsy King broke his silence backstage in Saudi Arabia, saying: “I swear to God, I thought I won it by at least three rounds.”
The Gypsy King lost by unanimous decision in a thrilling fight in Riyadh, when seeking to avenge his defeat to his Ukrainian rival in their first bout in May.
Fury had raised his arms in celebration at the final bell, but despite how close the fight had been, was deemed to have lost 116-112 by all three judges, casting into doubt the 36-year-old Brit’s future in boxing.
His shocked promoter Warren claimed the decision was “crazy” when he spoke in the ring instead of Fury. He said: “I am dumbfounded, to give four rounds out of the 12 is impossible.
“One judge didn’t give him any round from round six onwards, that’s impossible. It’s crazy, and I’m calm and collected, that is a nonsense. Their faces, the management of Usyk had him winning.”
Warren was questioned over whether Fury could retire after losing his undefeated record in their unification bout earlier this year and now suffering his second consecutive defeat at the hands of Usyk.
He replied: “He’s very disappointed, as am I. I don’t understand how he has only won four rounds. It’s up to him.
“It’s too early to say. It’s immediately after a fight and emotions are running high. But it’s nuts. I’m very disappointed but it is what it is. He’ll make up his mind.”
Interviewed on DAZN, long-time rival Anthony Joshua‘s promoter Eddie Hearn insisted that the only fight Fury should be considering now is finally taking on his man – at Wembley.
But when Fury faced the media in a press conference afterwards, he was still incensed by the decision, suggesting that he still believes he has unfinished business with Usyk and that a third showdown remains a possibility.
“He’s had a Christmas gift” he ranted, before shouting that “computers can f*** off” after hearing that the AI judge scored it 118-112 to Usyk.
Meanwhile, British heavyweight Daniel Dubois, who knocked out Joshua earlier this year, entered the ring after the clash and demanded a shot at “revenge” against Usyk.
He is hoping to atone for his controversial loss to ‘the Cat’ back in August 2023, when his punch on Usyk’s beltline was ruled to be a low blow – meaning the Ukrainian was given almost four minutes to recover, before going on to knock him out.
