SCIENTISTS will search the length of the world-famous Loch Ness in the hope to find clues about the monster Nessie and other secrets that lie beneath the water.
The team of researchers will examine DNA in the lake during a two-week mission in a bid to discover what creatures lived there.
When the team completes its research, scientists will send samples to labs in Australia, Denmark, France and New Zealand to be analysed.
Professor Neil Gemmell, of Otago University, said he was preparing to test the hypothesis about whether there was indeed a monster in the Scottish lake.

He added: “I’m going into this thinking it’s unlikely there is a monster, but I want to test that hypothesis. What we’ll get is a really nice survey of the biodiversity of Loch Ness.
“There’s absolutely no doubt that we will find new stuff, and that’s very exciting.
“While the prospect of looking for evidence of the Loch Ness monster is the hook to this project, there is an extraordinary amount of new knowledge that will will gain from the work about organisms that inhabit Loch Ness.”
The university professor believes new species of life could be found in the area, even if it is bacteria.
