The twisted crocodile expert, Adam Britton, turned a shipping container into a house of horrors where he sexually abused, harmed and decapitated animals – all without his wife’s knowledge

Twisted crocodile aficionado Adam Britton left his wife so traumatised by his crimes she was unable to return to their home. The former BBC animal expert, who once worked alongside David Attenborough creating shows, was imprisoned for the torture and rape of animals he owned.

UK born Britton, who was jailed last year, disturbingly referred to the animals as “f*** toys” and recorded himself sexually abusing, torturing and killing dozens of dogs. He was put behind bars after confessing to 56 offences related to the torture and sexual exploitation of over 42 animals on his rural property.

Now, his wife, Erin Britton, has opened up about her husbands “evil” crimes, which she said “ruined her life”.

It was in their shared home where the twisted “monster” used to carry out his animal abuse. In one room, a shipping container dubbed as a “torture room”, he recorded himself raping puppies.

The former couple used the property as a business. They housed crocodiles and operated a wildlife consultancy firm from it, but Erin did not realise the twisted truth.

At the time, officers discovered dog remains stored in a refrigerator alongside filming equipment that Britton had used to record himself committing the vile acts.

Erin lived at the rural home in the outskirts of Darwin, Australia with Yorkshire-born Adam.

However, when she left for business trips, Adam retreated into the overlooked property to indulge in his vile fantasies.

In posts shared to the dark web, Adam said: “I love to hurt dogs, I live for it. I can’t stop myself hurting dogs.”

Court documents state that sometimes he would drive to a secluded location to brutally murder his victims “for his own sadistic sexual pleasure”.

Between 2020 and 2022, Britton sourced 42 dogs for free from online classifieds giant Gumtree, promising their previous owners he would give them a “good home”.

Adam killed at least 39 of them before his arrest. Severed dog limbs, a decomposing puppy and a dog head were found by investigators on his property.

His crimes were so shocking, that publications at the time refused to disclose everything he did. It was in this home, which the Daily Mail reported just sold for $659,000 (£327,000), he was filming and disseminating videos of his murders.

He uploaded them on the dark web, hidden behind the pseudonyms Monster and Cerberus and that he discussed his kill count and sent detailed messages depicting how he carried out his abuse.

In one message, he told someone: “I remember being sadistic to small animals when I was maybe 7 or 8, and I repressed it but it really started to come back out again in my fantasies in my 20s and 30s”.

Another said: “I started fence jumping when I was 13 or 14 and molesting horses. Here’s one I killed a few weeks ago, what’s left of her. I have no emotional bond to them, they are toys pure and simple. And plenty more where they came from”, as reported by the BBC.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia this week Erin returned to the marital home for the first time since her husband’s arrest and said she was not sure if she would be able to go back.

She said: “It’s going to be hard for me to go back because there was so much I loved about that property. It was amazing and it’s part of me. Everything in my world changed.”

Traumatised Erin reportedly went on a six-month safari to escape the spotlight after her husband’s shocking crimes were made public.

Local hotel worker Amy Moore, who lives in nearby town Humpty Doo, said she felt sorry for Erin who had no knowledge of her husband’s crimes.

She said: “It seems she’s just up and left him – and can you blame her when you learn about all the terrible things he’s confessed to at an earlier court appearance.

“The word around these parts is that when Erin learned what her husband had got up to she fled – just packed up and left.

“She’s gone far away, going on a safari somewhere, but how she’s ever going to get over this can’t be imagined.

Erin said she had no knowledge of the crimes and added: “I was away at the time. I had no idea why or what the crimes were, no knowledge at all.

“I didn’t find out until I spoke to his lawyer the following morning… she told me that there were crimes of animal cruelty and bestiality… my brain was like denial, no. Hearing that information is the most awful thing you could ever hear about your partner. It was so shocking and I felt sick.

“I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t think. My brain was having trouble processing and understanding how such a horrible thing could even exist in the world. And then to find out that this was relating to him.”

She finished by claiming her partner was a “psychopath…hiding in plain sight”.
