EXCLUSIVE: A shocked dad said he’d be “extremely jealous and angry” if his daughters returned home drunk after discovering they were out on the tiles via a Wetherspoons Game Facebook post

Playing the ‘Wetherspoons Game’ has become cemented in pub-Facebook culture and whether you love it or hate it, sharing table numbers is only going from strength to strength.

In this writer’s personal experience, Spoons staff were not best amused when pals ordered several bowls of mushy peas and a glass of milk to our table. Banter. The manager was concerned processing the order would lead to food waste which I respected and assured her the peas would be scoffed up without bother.

This is made possible thanks to the budget boozer chain’s app which can be used anywhere providing they a table number for staff to deliver to.

Capitalising on the thrill of surprise and generosity are several Facebook pages bringing people together but as a couple of girls found out recently, you never know who’s watching.

In 18-year-old Courtney Davison’s case it was her dad.

Taking to the group recently, she wrote: “No sob story but I have £0.00p, lost my job and a dead goldfish please help with the essentials. p.s I fell over in the shower and knocked myself out this morning. “The Grand Electric Hall – Spennymoor, table 33.

“Will be paid forward. TIA”

Her selfie with big sister Faye, 19, reeled in 145 comments but not all of them from people sharing screenshots confirming they’d ordered a tipple to table 33.

Despite her claims of “no sob story” – as is so often the case with pleas for free cocktails – group members were quick to pick up on.

One pub player commented: “No sob stories? I maybe wrong but I counted at least 4.”

But the most eye-catching response of all came from her dad Lee, who’s since explained his reaction to the Daily Star.

He responded to Courtney’s post, saying: “These are my daughters! They deserve zero drinks! If they come home drunk I will be extremely jealous and angry and I don’t care how old they are! They will be grounded.”

With 1,700 likes, more people liked his comment than the actual post.

Lee, from Durham, added: “Ps; I killed the goldfish.”

In an attempt to learn whether this really was a case of a dad discovering his kids were cheekily out on the lash, via the Wetherspoons Game, we went straight to the horse’s mouth.

Security man Lee, 36, told the Daily Star: “I was definitely surprised initially because I had no idea that she was going to make the post. But then I had some fun with it. Trying to embarrass her and have a laugh at the same time.

“Also, I was jealous! I was in the house and I love a free beer. Not quite my local but, it’s not too far. She was with her sister, my other daughter Faye.”

For all the shots and cocktails sent to the table, the girls filmed themselves dunking a cheese and onion crisp into a dark drink and then a glass of milk before almost gagging at the taste.

“I retract my previous statement!!! This is no daughter of mine,” Lee joked.

This wasn’t Lee’s first time stirring up a bit of reaction on the group which has 178,000 members.

He pointed us towards his post from February which reads: “Let’s give this a try then shall we? unfortunately I don’t have a sob story for yous and I’m not depressed or skint I just love free stuff I probably will pay it forward too.

“Especially if you have a mint pair of (melons emoji) or look like you could beat me up.”
