A rescue mission lasting over two hours was launched for the woman aged 46, who lost her balance and fell into a tomb at the municipal cemetery in Navahermosa, Spain

A woman was left seriously injured after tumbling into an open grave at a cemetery. The 46-year-old, who has not been named, lost her balance and plunged into the tomb at the municipal cemetery in Navahermosa, Spain earlier this week.

A rescue mission lasting over two hours was launched with emergency services scrambled. Firefighters from the Toledo Provincial Fire Extinction and Rescue Consortium used ropes to create a specialist lifting system to hoist the woman out.

Pictures shared on social media show rescuers tending to the woman in the cramped space six feet under. According to the newspaper PeriódicoCLM, the woman was transported to the Nuestra Señora del Prado Hospital, located in Talavera de la Reina to be treated for serious injuries.

There has been no further update on her condition since the incident happened on Sunday (September 28).

The news comes after we reported how a ‘dead man’ turned up at his own funeral and told shocked mourners “I’m alive!”

After the 22-year-old bloke disrupted his own send-off, everyone started questioning whose body was actually lying in the coffin.

The mix-up began when a young man was struck by a sugarcane lorry on September 18 in Argentina. Though suicide was initially suspected, prosecutors classified the incident as negligent homicide and requested an autopsy on the corpse.

The following day, a woman arrived at the police station claiming to be the victim’s mother. She identified the body by the clothes and certain physical characteristics, and authorities released the remains to the family, who arranged a wake over the weekend.

During the service, the woman’s son – who hasn’t been identified – appeared declaring he wasn’t deceased. His surprise arrival caused uproar amongst the already distressed mourners present. The son admitted that he had been on a drinking spree for several days in Alderetes, north of Cordoba, Argentina and was unaware of what was unfolding at home.

The man was escorted to the police station for questioning while the body was sent back to the mortuary to determine the actual identity, as reported by What’s The Jam. The body was subsequently identified as Maximiliano Enrique Acosta, 28, from the neighbouring town of Delfin Gallo.

The body was handed over to the genuine family and a funeral was conducted in his hometown on Tuesday, September 23. But not before another blunder by the authorities. When the victim was initially identified as Maximiliano, his family members were reportedly shown a different body first.
