Teacher, 26, ‘confessed to sex with student in staff room before being arrested’

A teacher has been charged with third-degree sexual conduct with a 16-year-old boy, as the educator is said to have confided in a colleague about the relationship

A 26-year-old teacher is facing a potential 15-year prison sentence after allegedly confessing to a colleague about her illicit affair with a 16-year-old student.

Jocelyn Sanroman, who worked at Oakside Prep Academy near Detroit, Michigan, US, in 2023, has been charged with third-degree sexual conduct. Prosecutors claim that she revealed her secret to another teacher, who subsequently reported her to the authorities, sparking an investigation.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald condemned Sanroman’s actions, stating: “This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim. These allegations represent the ultimate breach of trust placed in educators by parents and the community.”

McDonald, a former teacher herself, praised the whistleblower who alerted police, saying: “As a former teacher myself, I applaud the teacher who contacted police about this situation, protecting other students from further exploitation.”

The prosecutor clarified that while a 16-year-old can give consent, the dynamics change when the relationship involves a teacher. She emphasized the importance of making schools a safe haven for children, free from violence, assault, and exploitation, reports the Mirror.

Sanroman’s mugshot has been released, and she now faces a potentially lengthy prison sentence if convicted.

Oakland Prep Academy, a charter school with an emphasis on “moral focus lessons”, claims to tailor instruction to each child’s strengths and incorporate moral teachings into daily life, boasting on its website: “We shape instruction to build on the strengths and abilities of each child and make Moral Focus lessons part of every school day. As a result, our students thrive.”

In response to the allegations, the school released a statement to Fox 2: “School officials said the allegations were troubling and that they acted immediately after learning about the accusations. We strive to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for the students entrusted to our care. Their safety and well-being remains our top priority.”

This comes after a teacher was “struck off” after schoolboys “excitedly” discovered her OnlyFans page.

A disciplinary hearing by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) said that mum of one Kirsty Buchan, who went under the username of ‘Jessica Jackrabbit x’, had been “posing in lingerie”.

The headteacher of Bannerman High School in Glasgow, Seonaidh Black, spoke of the moment she was stunned to be approached by one of her deputies who told her they had been spoken to by pupils in S5, aged 15 to 16, about the account in November 2022.

She said: “I was approached by some S5 and S6 boys, who were very excited. They were saying things like, ‘Have you heard the news’. I said something like ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about’ as I did not want to engage them in this kind of conversation.”
