A 15-year-old Russian girl who was believed missing after she sent an apology video to members of the murderous private mercenary group known as Wagner has been found.

Darya Vasineeva was last seen inside a snow-covered cemetery in the Russian city of Kasnovarsk Krai before she sent a video to her father of herself sitting on a tombstone in floods of tears.

In the video the girl claims she “allowed herself to deceive” someone called “Uncle Yura, nicknamed Komar”, out of 300k rubles under the pretext of wanting “bulletproof vests”. She went on to claim that someone called “Uncle Seryozha” was now coming for her to take her to the aforementioned Komar, in the video seen by the Daily Star.

Darya Vasineeva was apparently last seen by her devastated parents leaving their home in Achinsk, Russia on Tuesday afternoon (March 18). According to Baza News in Russia, the teenager sent a video to her worried father just two hours late, with the clip showing the girl sitting on a tombstone inside a cemetery in floods of tears. Now, an urgent manhunt is underway to try find the schoolgirl, with authorities concentrating their efforts in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk.

However, since the video Baza News in Russia has revealed she has been found in another city, Nazarovo, around 35km from her home in Achinsk where she was last seen on Tuesday afternoon (March 18).

Detectives found the girl in an apartment and revealed she was fine and investigators were working with her, say reports.

A statement detailing she had been found said her parents had been asked for 500 thousand rubles for her release and most likely she had been the victim of fraudsters.

When she went missing it emerged that she was taken to the cemetery, where footprints can be seen around the grave she was sitting on, by a taxi driver.

They claim that the girl did not talk to the driver but sat there with her headphones on while on her phone.

A police investigation was launched under Article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – which is kidnapping of a minor.

One line of thought speculated by Russian media was that the group was not actually Wagner-related and that it could have been “scammers” – which appears to be the line of thinking of police now the girl has been found.

The Wagner group was once run by the infamous Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was a former chef of Putin’s before becoming a mercenary leader. He died in plane crash in August 2023, hours after he led a failed coup of Russia against Vladimir Putin.
