Jake Paul will return to the ring this weekend to take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a cruiserweight clash in Anaheim, but things got heated as Paul spoke to Piers Morgan
Influencer Jake Paul storms off Piers Morgan Uncensored
Jake Paul dramatically stormed out of an interview with Piers Morgan just days before his comeback fight, following a heated verbal spat over his boxing ability.
The ‘Problem Child’ is set to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a cruiserweight bout in Anaheim on Saturday night. The 28-year-old hasn’t stepped into the ring since defeating former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson last November.
Despite predictions of a knockout against the boxing veteran, the ‘Problem Child’ sailed to a points victory. As Paul was wrapping up his final preparations for the match, the YouTuber-turned-boxer lost his temper and abruptly left an interview with Morgan after a fiery debate about his upcoming fight and his boxing credentials.
During the conversation – which airs tonight on YouTube from 10pm UK time – the duo also clashed over Paul’s contentious fight with Tyson. Sporting a Mexican sombrero – seemingly getting into the mood ahead of his bout with Chavez Jr – the American grew increasingly irritated before finally storming off.
“I’m not talking about Mike Tyson… I’m trying to fight the best people, and that’s why Chavez is here on Saturday.
“I want Canelo. I want Anthony Joshua. I want all these people. It’s been five years in this sport,” Paul retorted after Morgan suggested that while Paul was a brilliant businessman, he was still fighting a 58-year-old man, reports the Mirror.
Morgan swiftly interjected, retorting: “But the problem is the only proper boxer you fought was Tommy Fury, and he beat you. He’s not even the best in his family.”
Paul fired back: “I mean, you can sit there and make up s***, but you actually don’t know your facts. I fought multiple boxers with professional records, and including Mike Tyson himself, who I think is going to be a harder fight than Chavez.”
The social media star astonishingly claimed he could have defeated a prime Tyson – a claim Morgan quickly dismissed. An irate Paul responded: “You don’t actually know that! You can’t sit there and say that… I think anything is possible. That’s why self belief is the most powerful thing in the world.”
He added: “You don’t think I can be a Mike Tyson? I don’t think you go to the gym!”
Morgan stated: “I think you’re a great YouTuber, a great influencer. I admire what you try to do boxing, but I do think when you actually come up against a proper, serious boxer, and I suspect that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, maybe that person, it could all come crashing down.”
Paul sharply retorted: “I think the problem here Piers, is that you think that your opinion matters?”
When asked why he was appearing on the show if the host’s opinion didn’t matter, Paul retorted: “Oh, I’m just taking your audience to sell pay per views. I don’t give a f*** about your show, dumb a**. This is a f****** business enterprise. Buy the pay per view on Saturday, June 28, me versus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Thank you, tune in everybody!”
The 28-year-old then abruptly ended the call, leaving a visibly amused Piers smiling and saying: “Cheers Jake, really enjoyed that, and good luck to Julio – knock him out for all of us will you?”
Prior to the heated exchange, Paul had confidently asserted that he would emerge victorious on Saturday night with ease. “He’s a dumb a**, and so it’s going to be apparent on Saturday when he’s the one that gets knocked out… I’m being so honest, man, this guy is easy work.”
Chavez Jr has been relatively inactive in the ring in recent years. The former middleweight champion ended a three-year hiatus in his last outing, defeating ex-UFC star Uriah Hall.
With a professional record of 54-6-1-1, Chavez Jr has already faced notable opponents such as Andy Lee, Canelo Alvarez, and Daniel Jacobs.
