He’s already hung up his whip, now Indiana Jones legend Harrison Ford has teased an end to his glittering acting career. The box office star is full of praise for Apple TV’s hit show, Shrinking and says it would be a “sufficient” final project having signed up for a fourth series.

Indiana Jones legend Harrison Ford has hinted at retirement from acting.

The 83-year-old screen star has signed up for a fourth series of Apple TV’s hit show, Shrinking and admitted it would be a “sufficient” end to his career.

Ford, who plays a therapist in the acclaimed series, said: “Where do you go from here? The kind of work that we’re able to do is remarkable given the tools we have to work with, and the notion that lies behind this series.

“And if it was all over here, that would be sufficient.

“This has been a different kind of job for me, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. This is very special and it really nurtures me and makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance. I look for that in my life and I’m happy to have found it here.”

Ford’s movies have grossed an estimated $11 billion at the global box office with classics such as Star Wars, Blade Runner and Working Girl.

Bosses at Lucasfilm recently cancelled two Indiana Jones projects including an animated series from Rodrigo Blaas and a live-action spin-off about Abner Ravenwood, Indy’s mentor and the father of Marion, who gave Indy his iconic hat.

Nevertheless, rumour has it Indiana Jones is set to be rebooted with a new star and outgoing Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy suggested Indy will “never be done” despite the fifth movie in the series, Dial Of Destiny bombing at the box office.

Ford could yet be involved in some way as she revealed: “We are all still here, Steven [Spielberg] and Frank [Marshall] and I, and Harrison and George [Lucas], so we get to say whether there’s going to be any more or not.”

She also admitted having no regrets over the last film which was widely panned: “I have no regrets about that because Harrison wanted to do that more than anything. He did not want Indy to end with the fourth movie. He wanted a chance at another, and we did that for him. I think that was the right thing to do. He wanted to do that movie. I don’t think Indy will ever be done, but I don’t think anybody is interested right now in exploring it. But these are timeless movies, and Indy will never be done.”

The DisInsider reported last year: “Lucasfilm is letting the franchise rest for a bit before they do a full reboot of the franchise. I would expect the studio to announce something next year at the D23 Expo because even though the last film tanked at the box office, Indiana Jones is still an iconic IP and Disney/Lucasfilm do not want to waste that.”

Meanwhile Ford championed Shrinking co-star Michael J. Fox who has been battling Parkinson’s disease since 1991, as does Ford’s character on the show.

“It was a bit daunting when I thought about it, because I am representing a character that has Parkinson’s, and Michael, of course, has the real thing,” Ford said. “I’ve always felt a real sense of responsibility for getting that part of my story right. But Michael is an extraordinary, generous and lovely fellow, who I did not know at all and had a chance to, just working on this show. It was an extraordinary experience to work with him. He is such a powerful presence. Such grace and courage and indomitability, and some of that, I hope, will help me colour my portrayal of a character with Parkinson’s.”

“That’s the serious part of it. But the fun part of it was there as well. It was an extraordinary experience, I think for all of us, to be with Michael and see how he does what he does. He’s so funny as well.”

Shrinking is streaming on Apple TV.
