The notorious gangsters Eddie Lyons and Ross Monaghan were given a joint send-off as their double funeral took place in Glasgow earlier today (July 4).

Mourners descended on Bishopbriggs Crematorium in the city’s north, ahead of the 3pm service on Friday. The scene was set with two silver hearses carrying black coffins arriving at the venue. Floral tributes spelling out “Son” and “Dad” were visibly placed within. Following the cortege was a convoy of Mercedes vehicles, ferrying family members and close associates of the deceased duo.

A large crowd, clad in black and sporting designer attire, lined up to enter the building, awaiting the arrival of the cortege, reports the Daily Record.

Emotional scenes unfolded as women wept and comforted each other, while male friends of the pair formed two parallel lines at the crematorium entrance, creating a “guard of honour”.

The premises saw an influx of over 100 cars, many of which were large, dark SUVs with tinted windows.

Numerous vehicles were parked along the road outside the crematorium as people poured in to pay their last respects to the fallen gangsters.

Two private security guards in high-visibility jackets were seen patrolling the car park perimeter, keeping a watchful eye on proceedings.

As the service commenced, around 100 mourners braved the rain outside, as the building inside reached its capacity. Among those present were Lyons’ godfather Eddie Snr, 67, and the family’s close associate Liam Boyle, 44.

Boyle, Lyons and Monaghan were all implicated in a savage assault outside the Campsie Bar that left three men seriously wounded in April 2016, though the case eventually fell apart. The Braveheart theme song echoed at the crematorium entrance, followed by the Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony playing inside.

A heartfelt eulogy delivered to the mourners stated: “Everyone in this room has been touched by Edward and Ross in some way. Let’s remember them – the sons, brothers, husbands, dads cousins and the loyal and trusted friends.”

High-ranking gang member Eddie Lyons Jnr and his right-hand man Ross Monaghan were gunned down in a premeditated hit at Monaghan’s bar in Fuengirola, Costa Del Sol, on May 31.

The duo were ruthlessly slain in front of shocked holidaymakers who were unwinding with a drink post the Champions League final. Lyons Jr, 46, was enjoying a sunny getaway with golf mates from Dullatur Golf Club in Cumbernauld. The group later visited the Irish pub owned by long-time friend Monaghan, where Lyons was fatally shot outside after a masked shooter emerged from a vehicle.

The attacker then barged into the pub and fired shots at Monaghan, causing patrons to scramble for safety. Video footage circulated afterwards showed a woman attempting to perform CPR on Lyons on the pavement, while a frantic friend yelled “save him”.

Chilling CCTV footage from within the bar captured Monaghan’s desperate attempt to escape the gunman, showing him crawling across the floor as blood poured from a stomach wound visible through his T-shirt.

The 43 year old succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. A nurse recounted holding his hand as he lay dying.

Haunting images later emerged of Monaghan and Lyons’ bodies covered by white sheets in the aftermath of the deadly attack.

The shootings were a culmination of an intense gang war that erupted in Scotland earlier this year. The feud was ignited when associates of Edinburgh cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson swindled Dubai-based Ross McGill, a former Rangers “ultras” leader, in a £500k drug deal gone sour.

Richardson’s henchman, Michael Heeps, masterminded the transaction that duped McGill using counterfeit notes.

McGill retaliated with a relentless and violent campaign of shootings and firebombings spearheaded by his notorious Tamo Junto group. This vendetta dragged in anyone associated with Richardson, including the infamous Daniel crime clan from Glasgow.

Monaghan and Lyons were high-ranking members of the Lyons gang, embroiled in a decades-long feud with the rival Daniel family that spans almost 25 years.

Spanish police officials investigating the double homicide confirmed its connection to the Lyons and Daniel gang war.
