The group captured the eerie goings while investigating a bridge – that is considered one of the “top 20” most haunted locations in the UK. And it’s not for the fainthearted

A team of ghosthunting YouTubers reported hearing a chilling child’s voice – and even had ‘stones thrown’ at them on a notoriously haunted UK bridge.
The group, who filmed their eerie encounter on the bridge over the River Frome in the early hours, were taken aback by the amount of unexplained activity they experienced within minutes of arriving.
Paranormal investigator Tony Ferguson and Mark Ponting from the YouTube channel ‘Haunted The Truth’ headed out with a team of ghost hunters to what they are now dubbing as one of the “top 20” most haunted UK locations.
They set up stationary cameras on the bridge after 1am and began their vigil. But, they didn’t quite expect to encounter what happened next on the Snuff Mills in north east Bristol.
In a candid chat with Bristol Live, Tony shared: “From the minute we entered the woods we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is heavy and we felt like we were being watched and followed with every step we took.
“We set up our locked off cameras on the bridge and immediately we heard a child’s voice.
“Mark and I positioned ourselves in the middle of the bridge as this seems to be when activity happens, it’s almost like something doesn’t like or want anyone on the bridge.”
Tony then shared that he and Mark heard “footsteps rushing towards us” and managed to capture the sound on camera. But, on investigation, they couldn’t find anyone there.
They continued hearing the ominous sound of footsteps later in the evening, but still, no sign of any other humans there. The spookiness then was supercharged after the group experienced an unexplained encounter.
Tony recalled: “Mark and I were on the bridge calling out and we had what sounded like two stones thrown at us which landed in the water.
“I tried to debunk this as maybe being fish, but one of the stones can be heard clunking like stone on stone, which would rule out a fish.”
The eerie visit took place in the early hours of Tuesday, July 17. At one point in the video, Mark jumped up in surprise as a ‘thud’ echoed beside him.
Amid a flurry of swear words, he claimed he had been touched or struck on the back by a stone. However, this isn’t the first time Mark has been targeted by someone – or something – on the ghost hunts.
“Whilst Mark was on the bridge with Sue, you can hear a thud beside him and then he was touched in the back causing him to run off the bridge as this shocked him as he has never been touched before in all of his previous visits,” said Tony.
“Later that evening as Mark was walking back onto the bridge another stone can be heard landing heavily beside Bev [another ghosthunter] who was on the end of the bridge recording. It would appear that this was also aimed at Mark.
“On previous visits Mark has had stones thrown at him with other people so this is not the first time. There are claims from other investigators of stones being thrown and unexplained things happening.”
If the stones were not creepy enough for the intrepid ghost hunters, the group claimed to have captured “many disembodied voices” and even heard the whispers of a “child.”
They also heard “a male’s creepy voice” that “was caught right beside the camera.”
Ghostly tales have long been associated with the bridge and riverside footpath in Bristol’s Snuff Mills area, possibly for centuries. Officially known as Stapleton Glen, this forested parkland links Oldbury Court with Eastville Park and is named after a millworker, Snuffy Jack, who was always covered in snuff.
The area is said to be haunted by Snuffy Jack and a Catholic monk who conducted secret masses in the woods and, according to local lore, starved to death after becoming trapped in a priest’s hole while hiding.

Other eerie legends of Snuff Mills include the spirits of children who tragically drowned in the river, and the woods are also rumoured to have been the site of a 16th-century witches’ coven.
Tony expressed his surprise at the level of paranormal activity they encountered.
“As an investigator that has documented most of the UKs haunted locations I was shocked by the amount of activity in such a short time,” Tony admitted.
“I tend to stay away from outdoor locations because of contamination but was glad that I actually went to Snuff Mills after hearing of the reports as I had to see it to believe it and document the activity for myself. It’s a place that I will be returning to, to document more evidence in the future.
“I think the more you visit these places you build a connection with the place and what resides there. Mark has visited this location so many times that he has a strong connection with the place and what is there.
“I would put this in my top 20 locations in the UK for paranormal activity and I have visited a hell of a lot of locations.”
