Bank cards, a remote location, a made-up bed – the death of devoted dad-of-four Nathan Osman has left his grieving family with a binder-full of unanswered questions which, they hope, are now about to be taken seriously
Nathan Osman had only decided to join his friends at the last minute.
On September 27, 2024 the dad-of-four touched down on the Costa Blanca for some relaxation with his mates. Less than 24 hours later, an off-duty police officer found his body at the bottom of a 600ft cliff on the outskirts of the party resort of Benidorm.
Police said at the time he had suffered an accident, or had taken his own life. In the year since, his family have worked tirelessly to untangle what happened, claiming a thorough investigation was never carried out.
Now, authorities agree with them: he was ‘likely murdered’.
A report from Spanish outlet Olive Press said: “The judge and prosecutor agreed to reopen the case and to investigate Nathan’s death as a potential homicide. With foul play being determined due to the factors raised.”
His parents, Elizabeth and Jonathan, his brother Lee Evans and his sister Alannah have been to the resort as part of their investigation, and have now successfully convinced police ‘foul play’ was involved.
Now, questions hang over what happened to the 30-year-old from Pontypridd, south Wales, in that fateful window.
Relaxed body language
CCTV taken before Nathan’s death shows him looking calm. As part of their investigation, his family gathered clips of him in the hours preceding his death.
They also claim the path up to the cliff would have been hard to navigate after dark, saying it indicates he was transported there rather than making his own way.
Nathan’s bank cards
As part of the investigation, it came to light that efforts were made to use Nathan’s bank cards in the hours following his death.
He was found with a damaged phone but no other valuables were found at the scene. The family also claim that police did not follow up on the use of his cards.
The location he was found
Nathan’s body was found a 50-minute walk away from his last known location and he had a bed booked for that night which he never slept in.
Reports claim Nathan loved life and lived for his daughter and three sons, at odds with the initial police speculation he may have taken his own life.
A fundraiser set up afterwards said: “Nathan was the smile that would light up the room, and to anyone that had the pleasure of meeting him, he would tell you that his four children were his whole world. A dedicated father who provided his children with the best life.”
Speaking to the BBC, Lee said: “We strongly believe he was taken up there, whether it was by taxi or against his own will
“And something has happened for him to be found where he was found.”
Small window of time
Nathan’s body was found less than 24 hours after he arrived in Benidorm, meaning he lost his life very quickly into his trip.
Images of him topless on a beach don’t match up with what happened just a short time afterwards.
The Daily Star has reached out to police in Benidorm for further information.
