Avon and Somerset Police were called to a collision in Bedminster just after 12.30pm where a car left the scene after striking a cyclist on North Street. A suspect has now been arrested
An individual has been detained following a hit-and-run collision in Bristol this afternoon.
Avon and Somerset Police were summoned to a crash scene in Bedminster shortly after 12.30pm. The incident on North Street involved a cyclist and a motor vehicle.
Officers report that the car fled the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services. The force subsequently tracked down the vehicle and apprehended one person in relation to the incident, reports Bristol Live. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Officers are at the scene of a serious collision in North Street, Bedminster, Bristol, this afternoon (Sunday 11 January).
“We were called just after 12.30pm following report of a collision involving a cyclist and a car. The car left the scene before police arrival and enquiries were carried out to locate this vehicle.
“One person has been arrested in connection with the incident and are being into police custody. North Street has been closed at the junctions with King William Street, Sion Road, Braunton Road, Henburn Road and Fairfield Road while enquiries are ongoing. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
“If you were in the area at the time of the collision, or have doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage, please call us on 101 and quote reference 5226009040.”
Eyewitnesses at the location confirmed that Avon Fire and Rescue service and paramedics were present at the scene. North Street has been closed while police conduct enquiries into the collision, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
The junctions with King William Street, Sion Road, Braunton Road, Henburn Road and Fairfield Road are also closed.
