The US doesn't want to face reality that Saudi Arabia and Israel are insignificant bone heads. Pulling out of the deal was because it put the EU and UK far above Saudi Arabia and Israel. Then there is the odd blindness that Turkey is by far the most powerful military and strategically important country in the Middle East. But then the US spent billions on a welfare state and Chernobyl in Ukraine, whilst Russia got a naval base and the prosperous Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. Must be what the US goes for. Without a doubt, Qasem Soleimani was far from being an angel and was indeed a danger. However, if Trump had not of pulled out of the agreement with Iran, we would very likely not be in this place right now. The agreement that Obama and Europe had with Iran was admittedly not perfect, but it was widely seen to be working. Why have we gone from a deal that was ensuring peace to the brink of war? How could we let this of happened in the first place? One thing that we can probably safely assume is that the European countries party to this agreement clearly do not have enough clout when it comes to the USA. In particular, the UK boasts about the 'special relationship' between it and the USA, but what have we achieved? What use is it to us if that special relationship doesn't allow us to shout 'STOP' and persuade the USA to step back and take heed of our advice and counsel. The truth is, the USA is either not willing to listen or it has us all over a barrel. Whichever cap fits, let's wear it and shame on us.
