If CNN (and other's like CNN, individuals and companies) likes you, you and your followers can say anything you like (no matter how mean or false) with total immunity. But if you are the opposition they'll twist any & every word to turn it into something that violates their "morality" code. Nothing there? That's what editing is for. To take things out of context and make it seem like you said something you didn't. They still can't sling mud at you? No problem. You are also responsible for every word, text, or tweet for every person who has ever heard you, read you, or just knows who you are.
