Dana White discusses Conor McGregor’s future
UFC president Dana White has claimed that Conor McGregor is eyeing a September return to the Octagon.
“I don’t think Conor McGregor could make the weight on six days’ notice,” White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto when asked why ‘The Notorious’ didn’t step in for Tony Ferguson at UFC 223. “That’s a tough weight cut for him.
“And Conor is not the guy I want to throw in as a late replacement fighter.
“He’s a guy I want to make a fight with and have the right amount of time to promote the fight.
“I think Conor could return in September, and it could be against one of these guys.”
Max Holloway talks UFC 223 bout
UFC featherweight champion Holloway has claimed the decision to fill in for Ferguson at UFC 223 was a no-brainer.
“April Fools! Nah, I’m just joking,” Holloway told KHON News when discussing his decision to face Nurmagomedov on short notice.
“My manager called me. He said, ‘Tony’s hurt’ and ‘they want you and Khabib’. I was like, ‘How do you turn down an opportunity like this?’
“Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime and there was really only one guy was able to do it.
“I’m glad to be the second guy and I’m going to go out there and make history.”
