Morrow, who made over 60 appearances for the Gunners, was the highest-profile casualty of a restructuring headed up by Edu and academy manager Per Mertesacker.

But Tottenham now see Morrow as a candidate to continue the work of McDermott.

During his 15 years at Spurs McDermott helped develop several talented players, including Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Danny Rose, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend.

And while he is highly regarded for his work at Tottenham, McDermott insisted that he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work at the FA.
