Manchester United went into the game aiming to bounce back following the Red Devils’ poor 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in midweek.

And, despite not always hitting top form against Huddersfield, Jose Mourinho’s side managed to close the gap on Manchester City with a hard-fought win.

David Wagner’s team went into the interval level having thwarted every United attack.

But the Red Devils finally got their breakthrough via Lukaku in the 55th minute, bagging his 19th goal of the season so far with a sweet left-foot volley.

Manchester United added a second through Sanchez, making his first home appearance since joining from Arsenal last month.

The Chilean was fouled in the box and stepped up to take the penalty that followed.

Sanchez’s initial spotkick was saved.

But the 29-year-old prodded home the rebound to get off the mark for his new club.

The win means United now sit 13 points clear of Manchester City, who still look primed to win the title.

However, they have some breathing space in second, now being six points ahead of Liverpool ahead of the Reds’ game against Tottenham tomorrow.
