Part of the reason the Lakers have little to no assets available to make some other trades is due to the blockbuster deal which saw Anthony Davis join from the Pelicans.
LeBron James called out critics who said the Lakers gave up too much to acquire Davis, but Windhorst believes the franchise’s current situation means the four-time MVP is wrong.
“LeBron over the weekend put out something on Instagram where he said, ‘people still think we gave up too much for Anthony Davis’,” he added.
“I do still think that because it was a one-to-one negotiation and where the Laker are going to feel the Anthony Davis-pinch is not when he scores 46, but because they gave up all of those swaps and all of those picks, they don’t have the extra pieces to make themselves better through trade.
“Free agency maybe next summer but to materially improve this team, they are going to have a big difficulty to do that through trade.”
