For Paige Bueckers, Beauty Scores on and off the Court

Do you think you put yourself in a tomboy box when you were growing up? Or is there another reason you didn’t really experiment until college?

I definitely was a tomboy in high school, but I still wore dresses to the dances or anything that you’re supposed to dress formally for. Now I’m more [into] a two-piece or a suit. But definitely growing up, I didn’t really have a whole bunch of friends that were super into like beauty. Now, my little sister is super into beauty—she does full makeup routines, whole hair routines, and she watches all the YouTube videos. So I really go to her for beauty advice. Most of my friends, all we did was just play basketball. So that’s kind of all I knew growing up.

Is there anything you picked up from your sister?

How to use a curling iron, and how to make waves with a flat iron. I really just knew how to flat iron my hair and make it like bone straight.

What about your teammates?

[UConn’s] Jana El Alfy had like this strenuous, long skincare routine that she taught me in college. I don’t currently use it right now, but it was a whole bunch of ​​La Roche-Posay products. CeraVe was also used in the skincare routine. There’s obviously the foaming cleanser, the moisturizer…I don’t remember the exact process right now, but I just remember her teaching me a whole skincare routine.

Before she was traded to the Minnesota Lynx, you were on the Dallas Wings with DiJonai Carrington. I’ve seen her skills with game-day makeup and the makeover she did with Natisha Hiedeman. Have you picked up anything from her?

She wants to beautify me and do the whole makeup routine and glam session. We haven’t yet. Maybe at Unrivaled we can get to that. But I think the advice I got from her would be to use this product called One/Size. It’s the setting spray that she uses, and everybody’s like, “Your makeup always sticks during the game. How does it stay?” One Size was the product that she uses.

Speaking of Unrivaled, you’re now in the Breeze Basketball Club with a team of young stars, including Cameron Brink, Rickea Jackson, Kate Martin, Aari McDonald, and Dominique Malonga. What do you think is going to be like an advantage you have against some more veteran-heavy teams?
