Three years ago, Harrison Ford returned to star in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Reprising an 80s action hero when pushing 80 himself was probably not the best move by Disney, as the movie was a huge box office bomb, losing Disney over $130 million.

It’s hardly surprising, then, that Lucasfilm have cancelled two Indiana Jones projects.

According to The Wrap, one was set to be an animated series from Rodrigo Blaas, who worked on an episode of Star Wars animated anthology Visions. Just like the new video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, this show would have been set between the movies. As for the second project, this was a live-action spin-off about Abner Ravenwood, Indy’s mentor and the father of Marion, who gave Indy his iconic hat in the opening sequence of the Last Crusade. Nevertheless, rumour has it Indiana Jones is set to be rebooted with a new star.

The DisInsider reported last year: “Lucasfilm is letting the franchise rest for a bit before they do a full reboot of the franchise. I would expect the studio to announce something next year at the D23 Expo because even though the last film tanked at the box office, Indiana Jones is still an iconic IP and Disney/Lucasfilm do not want to waste that.” Perhaps someone like Glen Powell could play Indy next?
