Netflix viewers are being encouraged to tune into a new romantic comedy film that has already topped the non-English film chart in its second week. The film, French Lover, has captivated audiences with its love story between a French movie star (portrayed by Lupin’s Omar Sy) and a humble waitress (Sara Giraudeau), who is unfazed by his fame.

The plot summary states: “When a jaded actor meets a down-on-her-luck waitress in Paris, their unexpected love story begins – but will it survive the glare of the spotlight?”

The film has received an overwhelming response from fans. One viewer, felicia-630-799428, took to IMDb to rate the film 10/10, describing it as “perfectly imperfect”.

They commented: “It’s a really great love movie, worthy of the 90’s big hits. All the actors [do] a fantastic job [at] making me believe in everything.”

Another fan, Jeeystar, said: “It’s a cliché love story but I have loved every minute of it and I love Omar Sy. Sometimes this is just exactly what you need.”

They added: “Lovely sceneries, entertaining storyline, and again: Omar Sy! So no, it is not the most original script or the surprise of the season. But it is just what I needed on this busy Wednesday. And did I mention Omar Sy? He is a favourite.”

Meanwhile, msouga-877-396445 described it as “a modern Cinderella with teeth”, adding: “French Lover is unexpectedly tender and well crafted.

“On the surface it follows the familiar Cinderella template – a down-on-her-luck woman meets a famous man – yet the film earns its emotional beats because the prince is not perfect and the heroine is written and played with real strength.

“The story respects both characters’ flaws and lets their growth feel earned.

“The movie is beautifully staged and the performances are warm and believable; there are moments of real sweetness that made me shed a tear.

“If you like romantic films that balance lightness with honest character work, this one is worth a watch.”
