Netflix has just added what fans are hailing as ‘nothing short of a masterpiece’ to its streaming library.
The latest instalment in the Knives Out series, Wake Up Dead Man, was launched on the platform today (December 12), allowing viewers to enjoy this thrilling mystery from the comfort of their homes after a limited cinema release.
This marks the third chapter in the mystery saga that kicked off with Knives Out in 2019.
After the film’s commercial and critical triumph, Netflix inked a deal with its writer and director, Rian Johnson, also acclaimed for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, to host future sequels.
Following the 2022 release of Glass Onion on the streaming service, fans can now delve into Wake Up Dead Man.
The plot sees former James Bond actor Daniel Craig reprising his role as detective Benoit Blanc, embarking on his most perilous case yet.
A young priest, Jud Duplenticy, is dispatched to aid charismatic leader Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, but it soon becomes apparent that not everything is as it seems among the congregation. The faithful followers include pious Martha Delacroix, cautious groundskeeper Samson Holt, high-strung lawyer Vera Draven, Esq, ambitious politician Cy Draven, local physician Nat Sharp, renowned author Lee Ross, and accomplished cellist Simone Vivane, reports the Mirror.
When an inexplicable murder sends shockwaves through the community and leaves no clear suspect, local police chief Geraldine Scott teams up with famed detective Benoit Blanc to untangle a mystery that defies all reason.
Joining Craig is another stellar ensemble cast that upholds the franchise’s tradition of attracting top-tier talent. This instalment features Glenn Close, Josh O’Connor, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Thomas Haden Church, and Mila Kunis.
Critics have lavished praise upon the release, which currently holds an exceptional 93% rating. One reviewer declared it the finest of the trilogy, noting: “Rian Johnson takes Knives Out into darker, more gothic territory, delivering the trilogy’s best film that’s packed with clever twists and an unexpectedly rich battle between faith and logic.”
Meanwhile, another assessment highlighted a particular performance: “Thanks to a terrific Josh O’Connor, a standout even in a heavy-hitting cast… plus a confident screenplay that dares to ask existential questions along with the usual whodunnit twists, it could be the best instalment yet.”
Audiences who’ve already experienced the film are enthusiastically urging others to make it their weekend viewing priority. One viewer shared online: “Another great mystery thriller and just as good as the first one if you like the first two this is a must watch I can’t wait for the fourth movie it’s definitely one to watch twice”.
Another commented: “Very entertaining! ! I think it’s better than the last one. Great cast and Blanc is such a memorable character.”
A third viewer proclaimed: “This film is seriously, honestly, undeniably nothing short of a masterpiece, and a true review cannot do it tribute because it is greater than words can express. Daniel Craig and Rian Johnson have certainly nailed it with this one. “.
Even newcomers to the franchise have heaped praise upon it, with one remarking: “I thoroughly enjoyed this film. One of the best mystery films ever. The cast was amazing. Now I have to go back and watch the first two!”
