A legal decision over a race in a International GT Open event has seemingly justified Mercedes opting not to pursue an appeal following the controversial finish to the 2021 F1 season.
On a notorious day for F1, Lewis Hamilton was denied an unprecedented eighth tworld itle following a bizarre end to the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that culminated in Max Verstappen dramatically being crowned champion.
Toto Wolff and co immediately activated their right to appeal. However, four days later they dropped that course of action, despite releasing a statement where the team reiterated “the way things unfolded was not right.”
And now it seems the Silver Arrows made the right call, albeit reluctantly. At the GT event in Spielberg in September, a similar dispute arose over the use of a safety car, with the matter being taken to the FIA’s International Court of Appeal (ICA).
