Erik ten Hag has revealed that he held ‘positive’ talks with Manchester United’s new investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe for several hours at the club’s Carrington training base on Wednesday.

Ratcliffe has paid his first visit to the training ground and Old Trafford this week since completing a £1.3billion deal to buy 25 per cent of the club.

The billionaire Ineos owner and his sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford spoke to Ten Hag, his coaching staff and the players at Carrington on Wednesday, and the United manager was encouraged by what he heard.

‘It was very positive, I have to say,’ said Ten Hag. ‘We had a long meeting, so many hours we sit together.

‘On many issues we were on the same page, it was very positive from both sides. I can say that it was a very constructive meeting and we’re looking forward to working with each other.

‘I think it’s very shortly (that Ineos take over football operations) and also we have to let it settle down. They’re just coming in and introducing themselves.

‘They have good ideas. We have to see what we can integrate, in togetherness we will work, but after one day you can’t tell that.

‘They have given me a few (what their ideas are). We have had our debates about strategies and I think we will come together.’

IT’S ALL KICKING OFF!

It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, with a show every Monday and Thursday this season.

It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify

Ten Hag was reluctant to confirm when goalkeeper Andre Onana will leave for the Africa Cup of Nations following Mail Sport’s report that he is set to play for United against Tottenham on January 14 and then join up with the Cameroon squad to face Guinea 24 hours later.

The Dutchman would only say that Onana will play in the FA Cup tie at Wigan on Monday night, saying: ‘So we’re talking with the Cameroon federation. It was an issue during the talks with Andre when he came in here. It’s constructive. We will see. I don’t know yet, but he will be here for the game against Wigan.’

Although United technically had to release Onana on January 1, Cameroon are sympathetic to the fact that he had retired from international football when he joined United from Inter Milan in a £47.2m deal in July and then made a U-turn in September.
