ITF chief David Haggerty wants to see Rafael Nadal complete a ‘storybook ending’ to his illustrious career by competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Spaniard confirmed earlier this year that next season will likely be his last on the ATP Tour with his injury issues catching up on him.
Nadal hasn’t given much more information on when his last tournament will likely be, but Haggerty feels the Olympics would be the perfect send off.
“We know what a champion he is and a medallist a number of times so it certainly could be a storybook ending, so to speak, for him. It would be great. Whether he does or not, will be up to him,” he said.
“But we’ll do everything we can to encourage him to play, because I think it would be great. Knowing that it’s in Paris, at Roland Garros, where he’s had such tremendous success would be a great venue for him to be able to compete at.”
