Putin is right about the sanctions blow back. A good illustration of this is with with respect to US President Joe Biden.
The sanctions against Russia have contributed towards massive inflation in the US. This has led Biden's approval numbers to plummet. The Democrats will probably lose the Midterms and Biden has wrecked his chance of a second term.
Essentially, in an attempt to screw up Russia's economy, Biden has screwed up his country, his party and his Presidency.
Are the sanctions hurting Russia? Absolutely! However, I suspect that they are causing more personal pain to Biden than to Putin. Given that the intention was to "hurt" Putin, Biden must be feeling he scored an own-goal.
