This does not show that Johnson cannot be trusted since "even his own brother does not trust him," as the 'expert' wheeled out by the stunningly anti-Johnson BBC claims. The brother has always been violently anti-Brexit, and therefore, obviously, by agreeing to serve prominently in a government that he knew was aggressively pro-Brexit (and that would inevitably come under fire for it) he was implicitly agreeing to put his stand aside, or, at the least, not to use the position Boris (his brother!) put him in to attack him when he was down.
That is exactly what he has done.
NOTICE — Jo did NOT quit four days ago. Why not? Four days ago Brexit looked likely, and so, if the reason for Jo's resignation were really that his fears about Brexit being instituted were so great they overwhelmed his family loyalty, why didn't he resign four days ago, when Brexit seemed a GREATER possibility, and, moreover, Boris was riding high, meaning he would be less vulnerable to political AND personal attack?
Why wait until today, when the anti-Brexit press is crowing over Boris's losses — that is, when Brexit seems LESS probable and Boris is MORE vulnerable?
The obvious answer is that this resignation is not an act of principle, but a deliberate and ugly attempt to do maximum political AND personal damage to one whose great fault regarding Jo appears to be that he is a fool for a treacherous, secretly envious, spoiled, little brother.
He is surely not the first to suffer that fault!
