The next installment of a dramatic Ashes series gets underway at Old Trafford on Wednesday morning with England and Australia locked at 1-1.

England were staring down the barrel of match and series defeat at Headingley before the Sunday afternoon heroics of Ben Stokes snatched a miraculous victory and shifted the momentum.

Now it is for England to build upon that and win in Manchester to take a 2-1 advantage into the final Test at The Oval next week.

But Joe Root’s men will once more face their nemesis in Steve Smith, who will return to Australia’s line-up here after missing the third Test with concussion after being struck in the neck by a Jofra Archer bouncer.

England have made one surprise change to their bowling line-up with Craig Overton – whose first Test wicket was that of Smith – replacing the out-of-sorts Chris Woakes.

Australia are expected to bring leading World Cup wicket-taker Mitchell Starc into their team in place of James Pattinson.
