They’ve blocked bridges, held die-ins and closed roads – all in the name of stopping climate change.

Extinction Rebellion’s aims include net zero carbon emissions by 2025, the introduction of a state of emergency on the environment and a national Citizen’s Assembly to oversee it all.

It was launched earlier this year by the Rising Up network of activists, itself formed by members of groups ranging from the radical Earth First! environmentalists to Occupy, which protested against corporate greed during the financial crisis.

But with fast-growing support and member groups across the UK and abroad, what’s this new movement all about?
