I agree with your stance on alternative energy sources Styx. We need to continue to invest and explore these other options fully and vigorously.
Well damn and here I was hoping I was burning dinosaurs in my tank…….
Fuck the fracking ! Fucking gas running through my tap !
I have listened to some economists and this oil boom won't last. We need to invest in alternate energy means. I was born here in Texas. I'm 55 and I have lived through oil booms as well as the pinch in the 70s. While I'm proud of this, we must invest in other energy means. I'm afraid people will say. "Look at all this oil!" "We don't need solar panels!" Then, we fuck ourselves when the oil goes bust again.
The good news just keeps on coming.
It has been for some time I believe, just not a well known fact because we import so much, but now we are exporting natural gas (liquified).
Fracking whore
I have windmills and my power bill is 400-500 a month
Most importantly we will no longer be paying middle east countries nearly 300M a year importing their oil
Yahoo! Nice to know we have all that Black Gold. Guess I’ll be keeping my 1990 5.0 V8 Ford F-150. Styx, your right, we need to use our energy to produce energy saving products, like solar, wind, electric vehicles and more. We can really stretch our energy resources if we were to do just that.
Who believes in ABIOTIC Oil ????
Fuel cell tech is the next big thing…….also graphene break-throughs will result in tremendous battery developments that will use salt,
Trump is wrong. I'm not tired of winning yet.
Hi my name is mike with senoir benefits how are u
Give a like if u have hear this words before
Cool can we start transfer subsidies away from big oil to green tech? The evidence of human caused climate change is indisputable at this point, we can at least prepare and mitigate the effects of excessive greenhouse emissions a bit better.
This is obviously horrible news and Trump is an evil climate Nazi because the carbon emissions are going to kill everybody.
We haven't put a dent in the amount of available oil. The Earth has been producing oil for tens of millions of years and is continuing to do so. We couldn't use it all up if we tried. I have nothing against solar/wind power but they're really not needed at all.
Obama would have gone whatever way lined his pockets, in his case the major reason for pursuing a political career.
When refering to nuclear as "clean" that usually indicates lower carbon emissions compared to coal or petroleum. Fewer miners die in the extraction of uranium versus coal as well. The only truly clean solar power is mirror concentration since the rare earths involved for panels must also be mined.
I too advocate the usage of solar panels since this will decentralize our electrical generation and make our society more survivable in the event of disruptions like the oil embargoes so beloved by the Arabic suppliers.
Forcing the usage of alternate sources of power by law is disruptive to the economy and should be avoided however. Alternate sources will become cheaper and thus more desirable as technology progress.
The natural evolution of our economy will solve most of the problems that the far left screams they need more power to solve.
Self reliant, smart. Middle East you don't want to fund, Venezuela you don't want to be blamed for, and Canada can't get their shit together. Well played, I'm a little jealous.
N C .we are not for drilling off the coasts .We still have problems from Duke energy they dumped a bunch of waste in our water .We have to filter water or drink bottle water .Because of thier clean up we are being charged more .Still not clean .We dont trust the water here .Obama time as pres .That y we got very scared of them drilling off the coast ..They already fk up once .we are paying for it .I can thankfully say that tiger fish that were dumped in to the potomac by the chinesse , during Bush .People are allowed to catch as many as they like they say its good .Bass is comming back .Tigerfish a predator.that can live in salt and freash water .they can get big .The potomac that we use to jump in in parts of Va Occaquan. There no way in hell i would jump in now .tighr fish have big ass teeth .and come out of the water biting .Thier free to catch and eat ..
The EIA dose not consider condensate as crude oil, so the real number is more like 14 billion
This was predicted to happen a long time ago, its called the shale revolution that started in 2010.
America!!! FUCKYEAH!!!!!!
Don't kid yourself. Wind/Solar require plenty of fossil fuel infrastructure for manufacture, transportation, and installation. Plenty of rare earth elements are mined to make these things. The industrial manufacture of solar panels is an environmentalist nightmare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqVRNupPmNI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMgQ1-HdElM. Manufacturing of silicone wafers is highly toxic. This doesn't mean it is bad, just don't romanticize it. People need energy. People = pollution.
I hate to ask it, but I really would like to know the answer of why gas prices were a dollar cheaper under the Obama administration?
The US is going to invade itself. A civil war perhaps. To end communism
It's shale. Half life on sites is terrible (< 2 years), reserves are hugely overstated (> 100%) and the explosion in drilling only happened because the Fed kept interest rates down near zero, enabling debt-fuelled drilling. Rates rising now -> tons of bankruptcies in the shale sector and a drop in production. The government's EIA estimates are wildly optimistic: http://shalebubble.org
Solar production releases a greenhouse gas called hexaflouroethane.
We should be using more nuclear. It's vastly more efficient, environmentally cleaner, and safer statistically than anything else we have.
Styx believes in the Medichloriant Theory of Oil
Cut ALL subsidies for any type of energy ! May the most cost efficient energy prevail !
So we can stop giving Saudi Arabia money!!!!
We found a huge field in southern New Mexico – bigger than Saudi Arabia. The answer is fusion which no one wants to invest in because it means really cheap energy and the end of the oil cartel owned by the elites.
If the government weren't involved, worried about weapons, we'd be have Thorium-based reactors. We should also have a reactor infrastructure designed to burn nuclear waste to reduce it to a minimum.
Thanks for wearing a shirt.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing to ahead in oil production, but touting it while falling behind in education, becoming increasingly divided and radicalized politically, and starting to step back from being the dominant global cultural and military force, it really points to a dying empire. Oil reserves aren't going to dry up tomorrow, but they are very much a limited resource. Have you ever noticed how much talk there is of running out of oil, yet the actual time frame for this happening is so unclear? That really make me suspicious of the motives behind people constantly throwing totally contradictory figures at each other. It seems the best case scenario would be another 100 years or so of using stuff dug out of the ground, and that's based off of generous estimates of what's available and assuming minimal growth, as in a huge portion of the world's population continuing to live in the dirt.
Maybe the real question being debated when talking about energy, the environment, etc., isn't how to sustain indefinitely, but just until the end of the world. I mean with nuclear war, advanced AI, biological warfare, superbugs, and climate change all now having catastrophic potential within our lifetimes, 100 more years of humanity can seem pretty optimistic. But even in the more foreseeable future, only about a couple decades from now, current "alternative" energy sources could easily become more efficient to the point of simply out competing oil and significantly reducing the strategic value of all those oil reserves. The lack of investment in the future will have terrible consequences, and it could be sooner rather than later.
HOLY SHIT! Someone who can still correctly pronounce "nuclear!"
I give no f*cks about nature. Climate change and global warming is a myth.
Thorium fluoride nuclear reactors are far safer, we don't need to use Uranium. Technically solar energy is nuclear as the Sun is one big nuclear reaction. The problem we have is that we need to learn how to store energy better, noone will use a car with a limited range of drivable distance without having some sort of battery swap stations for electric cars. Plugging in your battery and waiting for it to charge is not like going to a gas pump.
Please take some time to watch a recent documentary on nuclear power called "The Nuclear Option". I think they do a good job of balancing the good and bad of nuclear as well as discuss new generations of nuclear reactors the use fuel already minded and siding in stock yards. I believe we should take advantage of all forms of energy!
