Princess Charlotte is a near carbon copy of her dad, Prince William, in new birthday portrait.
On May 2, the Prince and Princess of Wales celebrated their daughter’s 11th birthday by sharing a recent photo of the princess in a field of daisies, dressed casually in a navy and red striped Ralph Lauren sweater and dark blue jeans. “Wishing Charlotte a very happy 11th birthday,” the royals’ social media account captioned the photo with a birthday cake emoji.
Nearly every time Charlotte poses without her signature braids, followers are reminded just how much the young royal takes after her father—and while she certainly takes style cues from Kate Middleton at events, Charlotte even seems to have replicated her dad’s casual outfit formula for her latest snap. In the portrait, she chose to layer her knitwear over a light blue button down, as the future king often does on the rare occasions that call for denim.
Of course, there’s one aspect of her look that’s completely unique to Princess Charlotte. While her mom’s barely-there manicure continues to inspire the “princess nails” trend, Charlotte clearly favors bright and playful tones like bubble-gum pink and the sky blue shade she chose for her birthday portrait. How very on-trend for 2026!
Some of Will and Kate’s Instagram followers picked up on the polish, praising the parents for allowing their daughter to buck unspoken traditions that call for muted, demure nails. “Loving those [nails],” one user replied to the post. “I love that they let her be a normal [kid].”
According to People’s royal sources, that sense of normalcy is a top priority for Prince William and Kate Middleton. “[Kate] wants to emulate her upbringing, living in the countryside with a close-knit family,” a source told People back in 2019. “She desperately wants that normality for her own kids.” It looks like they’re doing just fine on that front.
