Donald Trump has said the people and companies only had to write “one little half sentence”
Donald Trump has hit out at people and companies, believed to be US-based, for not allowing the US government to keep the $159billion Tariffs.
He said if they had only wrote a “one little half sentence” then they could have made the US richer “more than most countries are worth”.
The US President also asked why these people and companies “couldn’t they have done that for our Nation?”
Writing on Truth Social, Trump said: “People and Companies that have taken advantage of our Country for decades, because of the horrible and ridiculous United States Supreme Court decision on Tariffs, are now supposed to be given back 159 Billion Dollars.
“All they had to do was one little half sentence, “that the United States does not have to pay back monies that were already paid” — and our Country would be 159 Billion Dollars richer. That’s more than most Countries are worth! Think of it — Just one half sentence, and we would have saved 159 Billion Dollars. Couldn’t they have done that for our Nation?”
The Trump administration begun paying out the refunds earlier this week after the Supreme Court ruled that his tariff program was illegal.
Trump is still furious over the decision on his tariffs, which saw percentages rise for US importers getting goods from foreign countries.
The decision was made with a 6-3 majority of the court’s justices on February 20 that found Trump use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act 1977 to justify placing reciprocal levies on US trading partners was invalid.
These therefore starting forcing the government to pay back money gained from the tariff policy.
