Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are no longer the most private couple in Hollywood.

For a long time, Gosling and Mendes seemed happy to keep their fans guessing when it came to their romance. Despite their being together since 2011 and sharing two daughters, we weren’t even sure if they were married until November 2022! And for the most part, they continue to keep their family business away from the press.

In 2017, however, Gosling broke their usual protocol when he gushed over Mendes in his acceptance speech after winning a Golden Globe for his performance in La La Land. “I just would like to try and thank one person properly and say that, while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” he said. “If she hadn’t taken all that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me. So sweetheart, thank you.”

And then, in the year of the Barbie movie, Mendes became her husband’s loudest supporter as both actors began sharing more about their home life in bits and spurts. They’re by no means the most outward facing family in Hollywood (a title that probably goes to Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard), but it seems like Mendes is ready to return to the spotlight after stepping back from acting around 2014.

That became all the more clear when Gosling brought his wife on stage at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, marking their first joint appearance in over a decade. Here’s everything we know about Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’s enviable relationship, and their complete relationship timeline, with the most recent updates up top.

March 5, 2026: While discussing Project Hail Mary on The Tonight Show, Gosling put a pause on self-promotion to celebrate his wife’s 52nd birthday with participation from the audience, which was filled with teachers for the evening.

“Here’s the thing, you might find me in the Hudson River tomorrow,” he joked of his decision to bring his wife out on stage for a surprise round of “Happy Birthday,” accompanied by New Jersey’s North Bergen High School marching band.

Mendes then joined her husband on stage in a pair of wide leg jeans and Gosling’s own blue and white striped cardigan, which she wore over a black T-shirt printed with an image of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Mendes took a moment to thank the audience before asking Fallon, “You’ll cut all this, right?”

“I had so many great teachers mentor me and I just want to say thank you to you guys,” she continued, before the marching band was revealed with a banner that read, “Happy Birthday, Eva!”

The entire spectacle, which marks their first joint appearance since 2015, concluded with confetti and a kiss on the cheek from Mendes to Gosling.
