Nigel Farage pays tribute to ‘Ian Watkins’ in Cameo video
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has appeared to pay tribute to murdered paedophile rock star Ian Watkins in a bizarre video after seemingly falling for a prank.
The bumbling right-wing politician, 61, paid tribute to “a good man, a good guy, who loved his children” and made reference to the late Lostprophets frontman’s catchphrase “Mega lolz” in the clip which has been shared online.
In the brief clip – requested from a punter on video sharing platform Cameo, where he charges £70 a pop for a shout out – Farage said: “This message is to pay tribute to Ian Watkins, a good man, a really good guy, who was very much in contact with me, who loved his children and will be sorely, sorely missed by them forever.
“And he’ll always have a very special place in everybody’s heart. And remember what he always said: ‘Mad lolz’, well I tell you what, that does just about sum up the world, doesn’t it? Sorry for your grief, but please try and keep some happy memories.”
The video was shared on Reddit, where a poster said he was incensed at seeing millionaire Farage “giggling at PMQ’s with regards to Groks obscene images”.
The user wrote: “I asked myself: ‘Is there anything Farage would not do for money?’ So I asked him to do a tribute to the former Lostprophets singer and nonce Ian Watkins!
“Unable to see through my frankly paper thin deception he took the money greedily! Have no illusions… this man will do anything for his paymasters!”
It was reported last year that Farage earns well over £1million from work he does outside parliament – on top of his MP’s salary of £91,346.
He was previously stung by Cameo pranksters who requested a birthday greeting video in which he said “Up the RA”, a reference to the Provisional Irish Republican Army terror group, which killed more than 1,700 people during its 25 year campaign.
He said in the 2021 video: “This message is for Brian Kelleher, Brexiteer, and I hope you have a great birthday.
“This comes from your good friend Aidan. Now, it’s a bit early in the day, so all I’ve got, actually, is coffee. But I hope you enjoy a few pints with the lads tonight. Up the ’Ra!”
Farage said at the time that he rejects any unsuitable messages but that one sometimes slips through the screening process.
Sick singer Watkins, 48, died after his throat was slashed at HMP Wakefield last October. He was serving life for a string of sick sex crimes against children, including the attempted rape of a baby.
Fellow inmates Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, were charged with his murder. A case management hearing is scheduled for February 2 at Leeds Crown Court.
