The Pitt Season 3: Cast, Release Date, and Latest News

Before season 2 of The Pitt even made it to air, HBO officially renewed the Emmy-winning medical procedural for a third season. Yep, The Pitt season 3 is officially confirmed! HBO CEO Casey Bloys revealed the good news during the Los Angeles premiere of season 2 on January 7.

Since its debut in January 2025, The Pitt has been both a commercial and critical success for the streamer. By mid-season last year, the show was averaging more than 10 million viewers, making it one of HBO Max’s most-successful shows ever.

In addition to winning the Emmy for outstanding drama series last September, season 1 of the The Pitt is also nominated for two Golden Globe Awards in 2026: Noah Wyle is nominated for best male actor in a television series (drama) and the show is up for best television series (drama). Between the season 3 confirmation, the season 2 premiere, and the Golden Globe Awards taking place this Sunday, it’s been a good week for Wyle and his co-stars.

Here’s what we know about upcoming third season of The Pitt.

Who is returning for The Pitt season 3?

HBO has not yet confirmed cast details. However, because many of the cast members from season 1 returned for season 2, we assume they’ll also return for season 3—especially Dr. Robbie (Noah Wyle), who is, we dare say, the heart and soul of the show.

Other fan favorite characters include Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Dr. King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Whitaker (Gerran Howell), Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif), and Dr. Javadi (Shabana Azeez)—all of whom are featured in season 2.

What will season 3 be about?

Each episode of seasons 1 and 2 follows the doctors and nurses at a Pittsburgh hospital through an hour of their emergency room shift. The 15-episode seasons take viewers through a single day in real time. We can assume season 3 will follow this format.

One thing we do know—season 3 will “probably not” take place during a holiday, according to Wyle. (Season 2 takes place on July 4.) During an interview with Variety at the season 2 premiere, he also guessed that the time jump between seasons will be shorter. “Ten months was a long jump,” he said. “I don’t think we need to make that long of a jump next time.”

When will season 3 premiere?

While we don’t have an exact date yet, we can expect a similar timeline as season 2, which premiered roughly a year after season 1. Casey Bloys noted that a procedural show like The Pitt is means turnaround time can be a lot quicker and consistent than say, a new season of House of the Dragon.

“The annual return is really, really important,” Bloys said in November 2025, per Deadline. “I think as an industry, we’ve gotten away from that, and my hope is for something like The Pitt, we aired it in January [2025], it’s coming back in January [2026]. That kind of habitual viewing, not only week to week, but on an annual basis, is really important in terms of setting habits. I was thrilled not only that it worked, that it won the Emmy on top of that was just cherry on top.”
