Long gone are the days I’d stuff skinny jeans into a pair of riding boots and throw on a chunky sweater, so my first instinct was to immediately panic buy this chic Zara skort and bomber jacket to create an all-brown version of my typical uniform. Unfortunately, the cost-per-wear of these items will be pretty low if I continue to avoid mixing brown and black based on the outdated fashion guidelines burned into my brain since the early aughts.
Enter Hailey Bieber, who recently stepped out to Sushi Park in Los Angeles wearing a light brown suede trench with an all black outfit and Mercedes-Benz baseball cap, pulling together the entire look with the ultimate neutral trump card: A leopard print bag.
Not only is leopard print a neutral (according to my mom) but the pattern itself is often made up of varying shades of brown and black, instantly tying together opposing pieces like Bieber’s satin black trousers and suede trench.
The same could easily be said for my cozy black Vuori coat that makes me feel like an Olsen twin and brand new brown suede boots. Honestly, I don’t know how it took me so long to solve this sartorial equation.
