Natalya is one of WWE’s most legendary female stars, and was given permission by the company to fight at the Bloodsport show – but it took a worrying turn moments after her win
WWE star Natalya was attacked in the crowd just minutes after making her first appearance in a promotion outside of the wrestling giant. The Canadian icon had announced last month that she has been given permission to appear on Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport show by WWE – and faced off against Japanese wrestler Miyu Yamashita ahead of Wrestlemania.
Coming out as Natalie Neidhart and dressed in a black bodysuit, rather than has her WWE name of Natalya and wearing bright pink outfits, the 42-year-old technical grappler beat her Japanese counterpart in a brutal battle where the ring has no ropes and was more of a UFC-style battle.
And having picked up the victory using her classic Sharpshooter submission, she then went to celebrate with members of the crowd.
But the mood turned sour when she squared up to one member who give her a middle-finger salute . . . and the pair then had to be seperated by security after punches were thrown.
The crowd seemingly had no idea that this was in fact NWA star and NWA World Women’s Champion Kenzie Paige, and was done to hype up Natalya’s appearance in the promotion in the NWA Corcket Cup tournament on May 17.
Social media was flooded with comments such as “Nattie was just attacked by a fan” and “what’s going on?!” but the commentary team confirmed later that this was indeed Kenzie Paige of the Billy Corgan-owned company.
Speaking to SportsKeeda earlier this week, Natalya explained how her NWA booking came about.
She told them: “I went to Triple H and I said, ‘Billy Corgan is a really good friend of mine, and I would love to do a show for NWA’.
“And Billy and WWE, and I think Hunter [Triple H] as well, I don’t wanna speak on behalf of Hunter, but I think Billy, Triple H, WWE, they have a good relationship, a good working relationship, and I think there’s a mutual respect there.
“Billy’s a really close friend of mine. I’ve been friends with him since 2006, so almost 20 years. I love what he does.
“He’s a rockstar in every sense of the word. I went and watched one of his shows, sold out, Madison Square Garden, a Smashing Pumpkins concert.
“He knows how to put on a show, so when I saw what he did with NWA, I really enjoyed it. It was fun. There’s stories to follow the matches because the matches don’t mean anything unless there’s a story.”
Well, it seems Natalya has got her NWA story now, thanks to Kenzie Paige.
